Charlie Robison, Texas-born country singer-songwriter, has died, his wife confirmed. He was 59.

Kristen Robison posted a wedding photo as she confirmed the news in a Facebook post on Sunday (September 10). She wrote in her caption: “It is with a heavy heart that I share the news that my husband, Charlie Robison has passed away today, surrounded by his family and friends. My heart is broken. Please pray for me, our children and our family.”

Robison released his debut full-length album, Life Of The Party, in the late 1990s. The 12-track project included some of the most beloved songs of Robison’s career, including “My Hometown,” “Barlight,” “Sunset Boulevard” and “I Don’t Feel That Way.” The Houston-born artist went on to release several other unforgettable albums throughout his decades-long career. His latest album, High Life, released in September 2013.

Robison shared on Facebook in September 2018 that he would retire from music after complications from a surgical procedure left him permanently unable to sing. He wrote in a statement at that time, in part: “…with a very heavy heart I am officially retiring from the the stage and studio. Gonna keep it short but just wanted y’all to hear it from me. It’s been an amazing ride and I cannot tell you all what the last 25 years has meant to me.”

Robison had three children with his first wife, Emily Strayer, a founding member of The Chicks. They were married from 1999 to 2008. Robison tied the knot with Kristen in 2015. Memorial services have not been announced as of publication time.
