Thomas Rhett is reminiscing on some of his deep cuts throughout his career as an award-winning country singer-songwriter, now that he’s tallied 20 No. 1 hits since making his debut more than a decade ago. The Georgia-born country star is reflecting on some of his career-spanning tracks that he wish had been singles, beginning with one of the songs from his first full-length album.
“Whatcha Got In That Cup” appeared on Rhett’s self-titled, 5-track EP, before it was included on the track list of his first-ever full-length album, It Goes Like This, in 2013. Rhett said that he hasn’t played the song in about 8 years as he picked up hist guitar and kicked off an acoustic rendition of the throwback anthem. He posted a video of the acoustic performance on Instagram, writing: “Songs I wish would’ve been singles… part one.”
“Hey girl whatcha got in that cup/ Gimmie a little sip and tell me whats up/ With your hey baby now come on don't be shy/ And woo hee that sure is good/ You got me trippin and thinkin' we should/ Getta talkin' and maybe hang out tonight/ ‘Cause I've been sippin' what you been sippin' on/ Never tasted something so sweet, never tasted something so strong/ And my heads buzzin' baby feeling like I'm falling in love”
Rhett’s 12-track debut album, It Goes Like This, also included “Get Me Some Of That,” “Make Me Wanna,” the title track and other memorable anthems. His latest full-length project is Where We Started, which released last year with tracks like “Angels,” “Church Boots,” “Slow Down Summer” and more, including collaborations with Riley Green, Tyler Hubbard, Russell Dickerson and Katy Perry.
