It’s because of country music that Carly Pearce learned about broken hearts, left her hometown in pursuit of her dreams, got through every time she fell down, and more. The Kentucky-born singer-songwriter debuted an autobiographical anthem on Friday morning (August 11) as she prepares for her next chapter of music and a fall headlining tour of the same name.
“Country Music Made Me Do It” marks the latest song to release as Pearce readies her next era, following her smash-hit 2021 album, 29: Written In Stone. The anthem serves as an “upbeat, cheeky love letter to the genre,” reads a press release issued on Friday. Pearce said, as she shared an adorable throwback photo from her childhood, that “country music has clearly been making me do it since day one.”
“Country music made me do it/ Got me drunk and got me through it/ A little heartbreak eighty proof/ Over three chords and the truth/ Out of a small town into a ballgown/ Picking me up every time that I fall down/ Everything that I've done wrong or I've done right/ Oh, country music made me do it/ And I'll do it till I die”
“‘Country Music Made Me Do It’ is the essence of this next chapter for me,” Pearce said earlier this week. “I wrote this song as an autobiographical anthem, but I can’t wait to hear the ways YOUR story has been influenced by country music. ...I’m SO excited to bring the ‘Country Music Made Me Do It’ Tour to life this fall, to celebrate the true beginning of a turned page in my life, both musically and personally.”
Pearce’s latest release follows “We Don’t Fight Anymore,” a heartfelt duet with Chris Stapleton that released earlier this summer. Pearce is set to kick off her headlining “Country Music Made Me Do It Tour” with Adam Doleac and Hannah Ellis in early October. After that, she’ll join Tim McGraw on his 2024 trek.
