Dan + Shay savored the sweetest moments in life in the sentimental anthem they debuted on Thursday night (August 3) at 11 p.m. CT. the duo said it was “inspired by the very idea that we re-built our relationship on,” after they revealed they went four months without speaking to one another and considered quitting music.
Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney said “Always Gonna Be,” a track from their forthcoming full-length album, is a song that “will forever hold a special place in our hearts.” It was the first song they wrote for the record, Bigger Houses, after deciding to move forward as a band, they shared in a note to their fans earlier this week. It happened after a meeting they had in March 2022 to talk about their future.
“ALWAYS GONNA BE is one of our favorite songs we’ve ever written + recorded,” Dan + Shay wrote in an Instagram caption when the song officially released. “It will forever hold a special place in our hearts because it was inspired by the very idea that we re-built our relationship on. Some things are always gonna be. When we wrote this song, we didn’t even know we were starting an album. We were just two best friends, reunited, and enjoying making music together the way we did 10 years ago. Whether you’re listening for it or not, we think you’ll hear that magic in this recording. Thanks for allowing us to do what we love and for all the kind words about the new music.”
“Always Gonna Be” pays tribute to meaningful moments shared by many, including listening to country music on the radio, tailgating on a Friday night and more: “Beer drinking kids on a backroad/ Good country songs on the radio/ Tailgates falling down on a Friday/ Long goodbye kisses in the driveway/ Long as the sun keeps coming up/Long as the Mississippi River runs/ Baby, just like you and me/ Some things are always gonna be.”
Dan + Shay shared a powerful video last month, sharing that they’d nearly split up after 10 years as a band, and talking about how they made their decision to move forward together. Since then, they announced that Bigger Houses is slated to release on September 15, and they released a few of the tracks from the album: the title track, “Save Me The Trouble” and “Heartbreak On The Map.” Listen to “Always Gonna Be” here:
