Mitchell Tenpenny announced the long-awaited release date of his next anthem after months of teasing his social media followers with snippets posted on TikTok. The hit-making singer-songwriter is slated to drop “Bigger Mistakes” on July 28, he confirmed on Friday (July 14).

Tenpenny’s TikTok followers have been anticipating the release date of the post-split single that Tenpenny wrote, joining forces with Chris DeStefano, Josh Kear and Michael Whitworth, per a press release issued Friday. The “Bigger Mistakes” announcement comes as Tenpenny kicks off Jason Aldean’s headlining “Highway Desperado Tour” on Friday night at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts in Bethel, New York.

“I’ve always loved Carly Simon’s ‘You’re So Vain’ because of the line ‘you’re so vain you probably think this song is about you.’ That line just cuts to the core,” Tenpenny said in a statement. “Some people like to think the world revolves around them and I wanted to write a song that was a reminder that isn’t the case. ‘Bigger Mistakes’ is about realizing that there are bigger and more important things in life than a breakup. The song is a reminder that you’ve gone through harder times and the future can be bright.”

Tenpenny previously spoke with iHeartCountry about his music and upcoming tour dates, saying at that time that he would “99% guarantee” that his smash-hit single, “Truth About You,” wouldn’t have launched to success without his TikTok followers. He said that the social media platform is a way to gather “instant data” and see how fans react in real time to unreleased music and “demos that probably would never see the light of day.”

“Honestly, not cliche at all, it's the greatest feeling in the world when (fans are) singing these songs back,” Tenpenny told iHeartCountry of performing live. “It's just so cool. It's the reason we do this. So, I've just been, you know, soaking it all in. It's been amazing. …I try to write lyrics about real things that happened in real life, and hopefully people can connect to it. Because I have those songs from other artists that do that for me. And so, …when I'm like in the room trying to write, I'm trying to write the feeling I felt then. Because I know someone's felt that some other time, and I think that's why those songs are worked for us for the while now.”

Tenpenny said he’s “pumped” to release new music. Listen to one of his TikTok teasers here, and see the list of “Highway Desperado Tour” dates below.
