Dolly Parton shared a heartbreaking statement as she mourned the loss of Treat Williams, the actor known for his roles in Everwood and Hair, who died in a motorcycle accident. He was 71.
Among the Connecticut-born actor’s film credits is the role of Carl Pellam in Christmas on the Square, Parton’s holiday film that premiered in 2020. The Debbie Allen-directed film — which Parton co-wrote in addition to appearing as the star — is about “an embittered scrooge of a woman plans to sell her small town, regardless of the consequences to the people who live there. However, a kindhearted angel arrives and shows her what would happen before she mends her ways and redeems herself,” the IMDb description of the family-friendly musical reads.
“I was very sad to hear that Treat Williams had passed away,” Parton wrote of her former co-star. “I’ve always been a fan and I had the wonderful opportunity of working with him on ‘Christmas on the Square’ a few years back. I’ve never known a kinder, sweeter, more talented person in my life. I just wanted to send my condolences to his family and just to know that we’ll always remember the great body of work that he left behind.”
Williams’ agent of 15 years, Barry McPherson, confirmed in a statement to PEOPLE that the beloved actor died on Monday (June 12), in a crash in Dorset, Vermont. He said at that time: “He was killed this afternoon. He was making a left or a right [and] a car cut him off. I'm just devastated. He was the nicest guy. He was so talented. He was an actor's actor. Filmmakers loved him. He's been the heart of the Hollywood since the late 1970s. He was really proud of his performance this year. He's been so happy with the work that I got him. He's had a balanced career.”
