Naomi Cooke Johnson is gearing up to kick off a new era in her music as she readies her official solo debut. The former Runaway June frontwoman announced on Monday morning (June 12) that her first-ever solo single is due out this month.

Cooke Johnson posted a snippet of “Girls Of Summer” as she revealed the release date and reflected on the “wild ride” of her next era. The singer-songwriter's label promised the single would offer “powerhouse vocals, a fiery attitude, and an irresistibly upbeat tempo.” Cooke Johnson shared in an Instagram caption: “I’ve been working really hard for more than a year making new music and it’s been a wild ride that I’m about to invite you on once again. A couple months ago a good friend of mine asked me what my new music sounded like. My first instinct was to rattle off the 7 or 8 influences that I pull from coupled with my own songwriting tendencies blah, blah, blah, but instead I found myself saying, ‘it sound like sports, sex and America.’

“If you’ve been here waiting I want to thank you with all of my heart,” she continued. “I promise I’ll make it worth the wait and if you’re just getting here - hop on in and buckle up.”

Cooke Johnson’s long-awaited solo debut comes more than a year after she announced that she would leave Runaway June, the trio she helped start in 2015, to pursue her next chapter. She said at that time: “…I am so grateful for the memories and time well spent with my bandmates, Hannah (Mulholland)Jen (Wayne) and Natalie (Stovall). It has been extremely hard to keep quiet about what I’ve been up to, and I cannot wait to share everything with you all very soon!! …I love you guys so much I could burst.”

Cooke Johnson’s debut solo single, “Girls Of Summer,” is set to release on June 23. See her announcement here:
