Miranda Lambert credits a “group of strong women” in her life with inspiring her latest form of storytelling. The powerhouse singer-songwriter has blazed trails with her authenticity in her music throughout her 20-year career as a country artist. Now, Lambert is opening up about personal stories — and delicious recipes — in her new cookbook.

Lambert released Y’all Eat Yet? on Tuesday (April 25), serving up “stories from my pretty b*tchin’ kitchen to yours,” she said when she announced the book earlier this year. “I was blessed to be raised by two generations of hell-raising, hard working women who knew how to make people feel good. This is a look into our lives and the food we’ve made along the way.”

The Texas native has made a few TV appearances to share stories behind her book, including Late Night with Seth Meyers on Monday night (April 24). Speaking with Seth Meyers, the award-winning singer-songwriter reflected that writing a book was a change of pace she didn’t expect, crediting co-writer Holly Gleason with making “sense of my stories and my redneck way of telling them.”

“I’m a songwriter, so it didn’t seem that hard ’til I started,” Lambert told Meyers with a laugh. “I was like, ‘Oh, man, this is a totally different ballgame.’ …It was a journey.”

Lambert said many of the stories in the book stem from memories with her mother, Bev, and her grandmother, Wanda, in addition to a group of female friends. She began working on the project in 2020, and said in an Instagram caption that it’s “surreal” that what started as “a simple Shutterfly book” turned into something so much bigger.

“It’s basically just stories, memories (from) growing up with a group of strong women around me like that, it really prepared me for the world,” Lambert said of the group that inspired some of the never-before-told stories in Y’all Eat Yet?. “I’ve been in the music industry for 20 years, so I feel like without their wisdom, I don’t know if I could’ve made it. …I’m really honest in my songs and my records, but I’ve never put some of these really personal stories and memories out there.”

Similarly, Lambert told the co-hosts on CBS Mornings that so many memories started around the table, including some of the biggest moments in life. To Lambert, “food tells a story,” she said. “This is just another extension of storytelling, on a plate.”

The Palomino superstar — who admits that her husband, Brendan McLoughlin, is the real cook in their family — described her recipes as “very approachable recipes. They use, like, butter and Velvet and stuff. Anyone can do it.” Watch her full interview clips below.
