Lainey Wilson is aiming to add an Emmy to her growing list of awards with the “rough around the edges” anthem “Smell Like Smoke,” which appeared in Yellowstone as Wilson made her acting debut in its latest season.

Wilson released “Smell Like Smoke” in November, adding it to the track list of her latest album, Bell Bottom Country: “If I I look a little drunk, it's 'cause I drank some/ If my neck's a little red, it's 'cause I am one/ Heaven's where I'm gonna go, the Bible says so on my shelf/ But if I smell like smoke, it's only 'cause I'vе been through hell.”

Wilson recently spoke with Variety about the song that will be submitted for consideration in the outstanding music and lyrics category, explaining that the last line in the chorus — “But if I smell like smoke, it's only 'cause I'vе been through hell” — “was a little rough around the edges, but with good energy, which we thought was perfect for Yellowstone.”

Yellowstone co-creator Taylor Sheridan contacted Wilson about appearing on the smash-hit Paramount+ series, and created the role specifically for her. Wilson plays a musician named Abby, and performed more original music throughout the show.

Wilson released Bell Bottom Country in October, originally with 14 tracks (including “Watermelon Moonshine,” “Live Off,” her empowering hit song “Heart Like A Truck,” and other highlights). The day she released her highly-anticipated sophomore project, Wilson also announced stops on her first-ever headlining tour. She said at the time: “This past year has been such a roller coaster – it’s truly been one of the most rewarding and challenging of my career. We’ve worked so hard on this album and I’m so proud of it. I can’t wait to headline my first tour next year and play all my new music across the country.”

Emmy nominations will be announced in July. Listen to “Smell Like Smoke” again here:
