Russell Dickerson said his wake up call at 3:30 a.m. was undoubtedly worth it as he took the TODAY show stage on Monday morning (April 17). The country star and soon-to-be father of two performed his latest single, “God Gave Me A Girl,” a heartwarming anthem from his self-titled project that released in 2022.
During the show, Dickerson chatted with the TODAY show hosts about his growing family, and spotlighted his wife in the studio. Kailey Dickerson beamed a bright smile as she said she’s feeling well during her second pregnancy. The couple announced last week that they’re expecting Baby No. 2 this fall, making son Remington, who is 2 and a half, a big brother this fall. The Dickersons made a heartwarming announcement on their social media channels, posting a video that captured the moment Kailey and Remington told the “Love You Like I Used To” artist about the pregnancy, and the sweet gender reveal celebration. Kailey has since shared glowing maternity photos with her family and her growing baby bump.
Dickerson shared on the TODAY show that “God Gave Me A Girl” is a song about the “aha moment” that he realized, “this is the woman of my dreams, and how she changed my life.” It’s one of the highlights on Dickerson’s latest 15-track album, along with the smash hit “She Likes It” feat. Jake Scott, and other fan-favorites: “God gave me a girl/ Girl gave me a kiss/ Kiss gave me a feelin' that I still get/ Every time I look in her eyes/ I don't deserve her and I don't know why/ She gave me her hand/ I gave her a ring/ Then as soon as I could/ I gave her my last name/ Now I'm gonna give her forever/ I knew what I wanted but He knew better/ God gave me a girl.”
