Lainey Wilson’s empowering anthem rang through Moody Center in Austin, Texas, shortly before the trailblazing singer-songwriter took home an award for the same smash-hit. Wilson performed “Heart Like a Truck” during the 2023 CMT Music Awards on Sunday evening (April 2), and won the Female Video of the Year award (earlier in the evening, she won in the “Collaborative Video of the Year” category for her powerful duet and music video with HARDY, “wait int he truck”).

Wilson nodded to the women who made “Heart Like a Truck” happen when she accepted the award on Sunday evening, and when she premiered the music video last year, included a shoutout to the “bada** women” who made it happen. The video was filmed under the direction of Elizabeth Olmstead in Franklin, Tennessee. Wilson, a lifelong horseback rider, said she felt ”right at home” on set. She put her acting skills to the test in the “Heart Like a Truck” video before making her TV debut in Yellowstone in its latest season.

“(Olmstead) really wowed me on this one,” Wilson said at that time. “It was also really cool that it ended up being a whole team of bada** women in charge of bringing this thing to life. It ain’t every day that you walk on a set and have a female director, executive producer, director of photography, etc. so them all being able to relate to the protagonist made me feel like there was an extra level of care, it was really special.”

“These past few months have been such a whirlwind, but man, it was quite the journey to get here. Miley (Cyrus) wasn’t playing when she said, ‘it’s about the climb,’ because it really is what builds character and teaches you the most about yourself,” Wilson said in a statement when the music video premiered last year. “‘Heart Like A Truck’ is all about self-discovery, growth and embracing scars as badges of honor. After all, a truck that has hit a few bumps and earned some scratches has proved itself and its tenacity—the shiny one on the lot can’t say that.”
