Carly Pearce performed a powerful rendition of her smash-hit heartbreak single, “What He Didn’t Do,” when she took the stage at the 2023 CMT Music Awards on Sunday evening (April 2). The smoldering anthem strongly resonated with the Austin, Texas crowd, as audience members sang along to every lyric and waved their arms in the air as Pearce told the story of what an ex didn’t do in a past relationship:
“So I ain't gonna go and tell you what he did/ But I'll tell you what he didn't do/ Treat me right, put me first, be a man of his word/ Stay home 'cause he wanted to/ Always fight for my love, hold on tight like it's something/ That he couldn't stand to lose/ The devil's in the details, I won't tell the hell that he put me through/ All I know is in the end, it wasn't what he did/ No, it was what he didn't do”
“What He Didn’t Do” has long been a crowd favorite, including during Pearce’s recording of her live album, 29: Written in Stone Live From Music City. Pearce premiered a powerful music video for the song in October 2022, putting symbolic imagery to the heartache ballad as she readied the end of her 29 era and looked ahead to new music. Bringing “(‘What He Didn’t Do’) to life this way feels like the perfect way to end my chapter of 29. Sometimes we weather the storms that life gives us and come out on the other side better than ever.”
Pearce is the latest addition to the all-star iHeartCountry Festival lineup on May 13, at Moody Center in Austin, Texas. Fans across the country will able to tune in to all of the incredible live performances at this year's iHeartCountry Festival as the event will be broadcast on iHeartRadio country stations nationwide, and on iHeartRadio.com as well as the iHeartRadio app on Saturday, May 13th at 8pm ET/5pm PT.
