Morgan Evans posted a statement after his ex-wife, Kelsea Ballerini, began to share her side of the story of the couple’s divorce.

“It’s really sad for me to see this person, who I spent so much of my life with, and loved with all my heart, saying things that aren’t reality and that leave out what really happened,” Evans’ statement, posted on his social media channels on Tuesday afternoon (February 21), reads. “She knows I’m not the type of guy to speak on those things publicly.

“If this is what she needs to heal, I hope it helps,” Evans continued. “All I ask is that if you’re on my pages, please don’t be mean. Don’t be mean to Kelsea, don’t be mean to each other. Life’s too short.”

Evans’ statement comes shortly after Ballerini released Rolling Up The Welcome Mat, her 6-track EP and accompanying short film telling her side of the story of the couple’s marriage and divorce.

Ballerini also spoke in an in-depth conversation with podcast host Alexandra Cooper, during an episode of Call Her Daddy that’s set to release Wednesday (February 22). Early teasers of the podcast episode show Ballerini speaking about how she “didn’t wanna have a wedding,” and that Evans was “putting out a song about being blindsided, he’s taking half the house he didn’t pay for,” seemingly referencing her ex’s heartbreak ballad, “Over For You.” She also said she often slept on the couch when she and her ex-husband were fighting. On TikTok, Ballerini encouraged her followers to listen to the full podcast episode, rather than “just listen to clips of and pull clickbait” from the conversation.

Ballerini, 29, and Evans, 37, announced their divorce on their Instagram stories in August 2022. They parted ways after nearly five years of marriage, having tied the knot in December 2017. Evans said at the time: “I am very sad to confirm that after almost 5 years of marriage, Kelsea and I are parting ways. I wish it were otherwise but sadly it is not.”
