Nate Smith took to Instagram to announce that he’s postponing the release of his debut album, and explain why he’s pushing it back. The “Whiskey On You” singer said in a message to fans that his update is “not the best news in the world, but it’s not the worst news, I’m hoping.”

Smith noted that he’s set to perform at Stagecoach, the massive country music festival in California, for the first time this year. Smith appears in the lineup along with Friday night headliner Luke Bryan, plus Jon Pardi, Riley Green, Elle King, Breland, Priscilla Block and other fan-favorite country artists.

Shortly after Stagecoach, Smith is kicking off the “Home Team Tour 23” with headliner Thomas Rhett and “She Had Me At Heads Carolina” artist Cole Swindell. The 40-city tour is slated to start on May 4 in Des Moines, Iowa, at Wells Fargo Arena. Smith, Swindell and Rhett will stop in 27 states before concluding the nationwide trek in September at Rhett’s home venue, Bridgestone Arena, in Nashville, Tennessee.

Smith explained in his video on Instagram that he and his team agreed that “it just didn’t feel right” to release his album in February while he’s at home in Nashville, rather than performing in front of crowds. Now, Smith will release his first record on April 28.

“I’m very sorry if you guys are frustrated with that for any reason. I appreciate your patience,” Smith apologized. “This is my first record, so I just wanna do it right. I’m nervous putting this thing out. I’m excited to put it out, but I’m still nervous because it’s my first one.”

Smith promised that he’ll follow up with “some surprises for you guys the next few weeks.” Watch his announcement on Instagram here:
