Dierks Bentley recently caught up with Capitol Records Nashville to share his holiday plans, as well as his favorite Christmas tradition.
This year, Bentley plans on going back home to Arizona to celebrate Christmas with his whole extended family. “I am so looking forward to getting back home to Arizona, love having Christmas out there in the desert, love seeing all the cacti that have lights wrapped around them and the luminaires, and just seeing my mom, who’s turning 80, and my in-laws,” he stressed. “Just having a desert Christmas. It’s gonna be so great.”
One of his favorite things he used to do while growing up in Arizona was drive around and look at all the Christmas lights, so much so that he's carried the tradition to his new home in Nashville. “We’ve got a lot of lights up on the house. We’ve got a Grinch in the front yard, as well as a talking Santa. So, new traditions here in Nashville and some old ones as well.”
For better or for worse, this tradition has essentially turned him into a modern-day Clark Griswold from the movie Christmas Vacation. “All of a sudden it’s like I’m all Clark Griswold out there decorating the tree, putting lights up around the house,” Bentley said. “So, all those things that you did as a kid and appreciated as a kid, you get a chance to do over again when you have kids, because you kinda become one again,” he added.
