A TikTok star with nearly one million followers has died at the age of 21. Canadian Megha Thakur passed away "suddenly and unexpectedly," according to a post from her parents on her Instagram.
The news comes just days after Thakur shared a video on TikTok of herself walking the streets of New York City in a backless mini-dress with a plunging neckline. The caption for it read, "You're in charge of your destiny. Remember that."
While the cause of her death has not been revealed, her parents wrote in their post, "It is with heavy hearts we announce the light of our life, our kind, caring, and beautiful daughter, Megha Thakur, suddenly and unexpectedly passed away on November 24, 2022, in the early morning hours. Megha was a confident and independent young woman. She will be dearly missed. She loved her fans and would have wanted you to know of her passing. At this time, we request your blessings for Megha. Your thoughts and prayers will be with her in her onward journey."

Megha had been posting on TikTok for three years and many of her videos encouraged body positivity and self-confidence. She was enrolled at Western University where she studied computer science.
Friends and fans have been mourning the loss. Fellow influencer Stephanie Valentine wrote, "My dearest Megha, this is absolutely devastating. Sending your family so much love. I'm so truly saddened by the loss of a creative genius." Meanwhile, followers said things like, "Please god no this can't be happening," and, "She inspired me so much her love was unconditional always wanted to see others win nothing but the best things to say about her my heart is so broken. sending your family so so much love," and, "Her posts brought so much confidence and light when I was struggling, she was always an angel, and beautiful inside and out. I'm sorry for your loss and may she rest in peace."
