Michael Ray Responds To Rumors That His Album Will Focus On His Divorce

Michael Ray wants to make one thing clear: His upcoming album “has NOTHING to do with my divorce” from Carly Pearce.

The two country artists started dating in 2018, and Pearce filed for divorce in June 2020 after eight months of marriage. Since then, Pearce has opened up about the “awful” split — including in her songwriting — while Ray said in a previous interview: “I don't wanna relive it. I don’t wanna sing about it. I don't wanna go back to it. So why don't we all move forward and let's put out a record that shows the growth, not the stagnant part of life.”

Now, Ray is doubling down on his intentions of moving forward as he works on his next album.

“Wanna make it clear. My next record has NOTHING to do with my divorce,” Ray said in a tweet on Thursday morning (November 17), seemingly referencing recent reports that he might tell his side of the split on the album. “That was bulls**t click bait. We have way bigger things going on in this world then to still be talking about a separation that happened almost 3 years ago now.

“Let’s start lifting up positive stories we have so much negative in this world and that seems to be the only thing anyone wants to talk about,” he added. “I’ve had ALOT of growth & done alot of work and I’m damn proud of where I am & who I am now.”

Ray confirmed last month that work on his fourth studio album is underway, following up on his 7-track EP, Higher Education, which released last year, and Amos, which released in 2019. Some of Ray’s latest hit songs include “Whiskey And Rain,” “Just The Way I Am,” “Holy Water” and others. Ray has yet to share when his upcoming album is set to debut.
