Scotty McCreery debuted a sentimental new music video that chronicles his early stages of fatherhood in the sweetest way.
McCreery and his wife, Gabi, welcomed their first child in the early morning hours of October 24. They introduced their newborn son, Merrick Avery McCreery, in a heartwarming Instagram post: “Thank yall for all of your prayers during this exciting season of life! Healthy baby and a healthy mama! Praise God🙌🏼🙏🏼” The McCreery’s son is named in honor of Gabi’s father, Merrick (Tre) Dugal III, and will be called Avery.
McCreery reflected on the biggest moments of parenthood in the sweet new music video for his latest single, “It Matters to Her,” which debuted on the American Idol alum’s 12-track album, Same Truck, in 2021. The song “took on a different meaning this past year” as he and Gabi welcomed their son. The music video flips through a digital scrapbook, including the moment Gabi learned she was pregnant on February 25, adorable photos with the sonogram images, telling their dog Moose about the baby, and other milestone moments.
“To me, the video shows off how much of a rock star Gabi was during her pregnancy,” McCreery told PEOPLE as the video premiered on Monday (November 14). “It also captures how much we both enjoyed getting ready for Avery's arrival.”
The music video ends with sweet snapshots of Avery and the new parents, including photos they shared when they announced that their son was born.
“Next to his mother, he is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen,”McCreery previously said in a statement as he and Gabi announced their son’s arrival. “We have been waiting and preparing all year, and now we are so excited to have our little man here with us. We have begun a grand new adventure that will continue for the rest of our lives. …Gabi was a total rock star during Avery’s birth. I could not be more proud of her. She has already taken to motherhood like a champ. Part of my joy as his Dad is watching Gabi already crush it as his Mom.”
