Tayla Lynn remembered her grandmother with a heartfelt message on Tuesday (October 4), sharing a photo of the two of them as her grandma — lovingly called “Memaw” — flashes a bright smile. Tayla’s famous family matriarch, country music legend Loretta Lynn, died peacefully at her ranch in Tennessee earlier that day. She was 90.

“Gettin to meet Jesus was something that brought her so much joy and comfort,” Tayla shared of Loretta. “This loss. This grief. We all feel it. You feel it like I do. Like the family. You are family. To her you were her family for so very long.

“She’s wasn’t just ours. She was yours too,” Tayla continued. “As sad as we are- we are so thankful she is home with her Father in Heaven. Her Mommy & Daddy. Her children past. Her husband. So many that have gone before her. Forever changed.”

The family confirmed in a statement on Tuesday morning: “Our precious mom, Loretta Lynn, passed away peacefully this morning, October 4th, in her sleep at home at her beloved ranch in Hurricane Mills.” The family also asked for privacy as they grieve their loss. They said memorial plans would be announced at a later time.

Tayla also honored her grandmother last year, when she released her album Tayla Lynn Sings Loretta Lynn, a 14-track project that puts Tayla’s spin on her legendary Memaw’s greatest hits. Some of the tracks included “You Ain’t Woman Enough,” “The Pull,” “Fist City” and “Coal Miner’s Daughter” (feat. Patsy Lynn), among others.

Dolly Parton, Reba McEntire, George Strait, Martina McBride and tons of other artists and fans were also quick to pay tribute to Lynn on Tuesday, remembering her as a true “Honky Tonk Angel,” “an absolute icon,” “a beautiful soul” and “a true pioneer in country music,” to name a few.
