Conner Smith debuted an acoustic ballad featuring singer-songwriter Ryan Hurd on Friday (September 16), and listeners already can’t get enough of it.

Smith reflected on Instagram this week that he teamed up with Hurd and Mark Trussell to write “Take It Slow” in 2021. “I’ll never forget the first time I heard the demo,” Smith said on Instagram. “This acoustic stays pretty true to Take It Slow we had before taking it into the studio. Grateful to Ryan for the being apart of this one.” He added in a recent statement shared by his record label:

“So, ‘Take It Slow' is pretty simply just about a night with a girl that you don’t want to end. I wrote the song with Ryan Hurd and Mark Trussell. I had the title, ‘Take It Slow,’ Mark started playing that guitar part that’s on it, and Ryan started to spit that melody. And we just kinda started running with it, and we just tried to take paint this picture of this night with this girl. It says, ‘She said take it slow,’ and it’s just kind of this girl looking it at me and saying, you know, I don’t want this night to end. You know, whether it be the car or the kiss or the night, let’s just take it slow.”

Hurd will be performing during the 2022 Daytime Stage at the iHeartRadio Music Festival on September 24th. Fans can tune in to stream live via iHeartMedia radio stations throughout the country across more than 150 markets, and watch via an exclusive national television broadcast special on The CW Network in October.
