Maren Morris rocked a shimmering blue dress with a slit in the skirt as she paid tribute to one of country music’s biggest artists on Monday evening (September 12), and she nodded to another one with her Instagram caption on Tuesday (September 13).
Morris told fans to “catch me honoring one of my favorite humans [Vince Gill] with one of my favorite songs of his this Friday (September 16) 9pm/8pm central on [CMT].”
Before that, however, Morris couldn’t resist referencing another iconic artist when she wrote: “why couldn’t you be blue over me? 💙” Morris’ caption caught the attention of LeAnn Rimes, who debuted the song as the title track of her 1996 album. It was the first No. 1 hit of her career as a recording artist that now spans more than two decades. Rimes commented “ha” with a fire emoji as she complimented Morris’ look while noting the reference to her iconic song. Morris replied, “thank you for your service, queen,” earning a series of red heart emojis from the “awakening” artist.
CMT will premiere CMT GIANTS: Vince Gill on Friday night. The 90-minute special will feature performances by Morris, Brad Paisley, Carrie Underwood, Chris Stapleton, Emmylou Harris, Keith Urban, Luke Combs, Reba McEntire, Ricky Skaggs, Rodney Crowell and Sting. It also includes an interview with Gill and others, according to CMT.
“From his timeless song catalog, numerous awards and unmatched musicianship, to the respect and camaraderie cultivated among his fellow musicians, and of course, his signature sense of humor, we can all agree Vince is a true titan in country music,” shared Margaret Comeaux, CMT’s Senior Vice President of Production, Music & Events. “He is a true ‘artist’s artist’ who has touched fans worldwide with his music and songwriting, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to bestow him with our most esteemed ‘CMT Giants’ distinction.”
Morris will be performing at the 2022 iHeartRadio Music Festival this September, and fans can tune in and watch live via an exclusive stream each night on September 23rd and 24th on The CW app and CWTV.com.
