The Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame announced its class of 2022, and inductees include: David Malloy, Gary Nicholson, Steve Wariner, Hillary Lindsey and Shania Twain. The Hall of Fame announced its latest class as the “songwriting giants” between some beloved hit songs, including “You’re Still The One,” “Holes In The Floor Of Heaven,” “Girl Crush,” “One More Last Chance” and “Drivin’ My Life Away.”
Twain, whose Netflix documentary recently released with a companion album, expressed her appreciation in a tweet on Wednesday evening (August 3). She wrote: “Thank you to Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame for this honor. It feels really good to be among so many of my songwriting idols and for my own songwriting to be celebrated - Ironically I was at home in Switzerland writing when this was announced! …It's been a while since a woman has been inducted into this, so it's pretty awesome to see not just me, but Hillary Lindsey included too.”
Twain, Lindsey and the others in the Class of 2022 will be inducted in October, according to the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame announcement. The Hall of Fame credited Sarah Cates (chair of the organization’s board of directors) and Mike Ford (executive director) with making the announcement. Cates noted in a statement: “I’m especially gratified to note that – for the first time since 2009 – two of our inductees-elect are women.”
The five songwriters in the Class of 2022 will join more than 220 previously-inducted members when they’re officially inducted on Sunday, October 30. The 52nd Anniversary Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame Gala is set to take place at the Music City Center in Nashville, Tennessee. See Twain's tweet here:
