Scotty McCreery is about to become a dad!
The “Damn Strait” artist and his wife, Gabi, confirmed to PEOPLE on Tuesday (June 21) that they’re expecting their first child. The “little man” is due in November, the parents-to-be announced. McCreery and Gabi tied the knot in 2018, and he explained that after a few years of marriage, it seemed like the right time to start their family.
“I was the only boy on both sides of my family, the last McCreery boy out there,” the American Idol alum explained to PEOPLE, admitting that he was a bit surprised to find out that he and his wife, a pediatric nurse, would welcome a son (but would have been “stoked” either way). “Gabi's from two sisters in her family, so I just figured it would be a girl. But we got a surprise of a boy.”
The McCreerys have yet to select a name for their son, but in the meantime, the country artist added in the interview that they would make preparations, including adding “a little nursery” on the tour bus: “…it'd be nice, just selfishly, to have Gabi and the baby out there with me. I don't want to miss anything with him growing up.”
McCreery shared the news on his social media channels, prompting a wave of excited and congratulatory messages: “Baby boy McCreery coming soon!”
