Nearly one month after The Judds delivered a powerful performance at the 2022 CMT Music Awards, the network announced plans to honor Naomi Judd with a special show on Tuesday (May 3). Loretta Lynn, Billy Ray Cyrus, Carrie Underwood, Martina McBride, Wynonna Judd and other artists will also be included in the special.
Naomi unexpectedly passed away on Saturday afternoon (April 30), and grief quickly reverberated through the country music community. There’s been an outpouring of heartfelt tributes since Wynonna and Ashley Judd announced: “Today we sisters experienced a tragedy. We lost our beautiful mother to the disease of mental illness. We are shattered. We are navigating profound grief and know that as we loved her, she was loved by her public. We are in unknown territory.”
On Monday (May 2), CMT announced that CMT Remembers: Naomi Judd is set for Tuesday at 9 p.m., followed by four encore presentations: on Wednesday (May 4) at 8:30 a.m. and 8 p.m., on Saturday (May 7) at 12 p.m. and Sunday (May 8) at 11 a.m.
“The show will feature archival footage and interviews intertwined with memorable performances and moments from the past several decades of her career,” CMT announced, noting that Naomi’s final interview from last month’s CMT Awards red carpet will also be included, along with The Judds' Country Music Hall of Fame induction the day after Naomi died. “The 30-minute television special will recount Judd’s colorful past as a trailblazer for women in country music and the duo’s path to becoming one of the most successful in country music history.” A CMT spokesperson said in a statement:
“We are deeply saddened to learn about the passing of the legendary Naomi Judd and honored to have shared many unforgettable moments and performances together over the years. Our hearts go out to her husband Larry, daughters Wynonna and Ashley, and her legions of fans around the world during this difficult time."
