Chris Stapleton brought the house down when he performed “Cold” at the 64th annual GRAMMY Awards on Sunday evening (April 3), soulfully performing the powerful hit song from his award-winning album. Stapleton took home the Country Album of the Year award for Starting Over, including a shout-out to his twins on their fourth birthday.
“I'm thinking a lot about sacrifices, 'cause I missed out on some of their birthday today,” Stapleton said, noting that others in the room have made some heart-aching sacrifices for their careers. Still, “hopefully we're all doing it so we make the world a better place, and the people that live in it will love each other and have a good time together and come together.”
The three-time nominee swept awards all three of his categories: Best Country Solo Performance (“You Should Probably Leave”), Best Country Song (“Cold”), and Best Country Album (Starting Over).
Stapleton is gearing up for his extended “All-American Road Show” Tour, which includes a star-studded guest list. Stapleton previously announced special guests: Dwight Yoakam, Elle King, The Highwomen, Madeline Edwards, Margo Price, Marty Stuart, Mavis Staples, Mike Campbell & The Dirty Knobs, Morgane Wade, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, Sheryl Crow, Willie Nelson & Friends, and Yola.
Stapleton released his award-nominated album, Starting Over, in late 2020. The project included some of his biggest hits, including the title track, “Cold,” “You Should Probably Leave” and others. In a previous interview, Stapleton shared a word of advice to anyone looking to start over: “Every so often, in our lives, we are presented with moments and choices, and some of them are easy choices to make, you know, opportunities or things like that. But, others are not so easy ones, and we are forced to pull up our bootstraps and march along.”
“The cool thing that I find in this song is that it is written from a perspective of hope,” he added. “There is some light, even if you can't see it.”
Stapleton relived his GRAMMY Awards performance when he shared the video on Instagram on Monday (April 4). Watch it here:
