Kelly Clarkson delivered a stunning performance of one of Keith Urban’s biggest heartache songs, and the heartfelt rendition was powerful enough to leave listeners hanging on every word. The crowd immediately applauded Clarkson when she finished singing “Tonight I Wanna Cry,” which Urban released in 2004. The breakup song longs for the one that got away, and sees the singer allow themselves to give in to their emotions in the aftermath of the breakup:

“I've never been the kind to ever let my feelings show/ And I thought that bein' strong meant never losin' your self-control/ But I'm just drunk enough to let go of my pain/ To hell with my pride, let it fall like rain/ From my eyes/ Tonight I want to cry.”

Clarkson performed the song as part of the “Kellyoke” segment on her popular daytime talk show. It’s not the first time the pop icon has covered country songs, including others by Brooks & Dunn, Terri Clark, Dolly Parton, Kacey Musgraves and more. The Kelly Clarkson Show is hailed as “the uplifting daytime destination for humor and connection featuring Emmy-winning talk show, Grammy-winning artist and America’s original idol, Kelly Clarkson.”

Urban retweeted the clip of Clarkson's performance on Tuesday afternoon (March 22). He wrote to Clarkson, “you killed this !!!!!!!! LOOOVE it.”
