Maddie & Tae are marking a milestone for one of their biggest songs on Thursday (March 17). The country duo shared a throwback photo on Instagram from the set of one of their most popular music videos, celebrating the 8th anniversary of “Girl In A Country Song,” which they released in 2015. “Every time we put our green on for St. Patrick’s Day, we’re reminded of the day we wrote the song that changed our lives! Happy 8th birthday ‘Girl in A Country Song,’” Maddie & Tae captioned, along with the still photo from the video. See the post in honor of “Girl In A Country Song” here:

The song observes how women in country songs are portrayed differently nowadays than when Conway Twitty or George Strait sang about women in their songs: “Bein' the girl in a country song/ How in the world did it go so wrong?/ Like all we're good for is lookin' good for/ You and your friends on the weekend, nothin' more/ We used to get a little respect/ Now we're lucky if we even get/ To climb up in your truck, keep our mouth shut and ride along/ And be the girl in a country song.”

Maddie & Tae have kept busy in the eight years since releasing their hit song. Most recently, they released their 8-track EP, Through The Madness Vol. 1 in January. At that time, Maddie & Tae explained that their album “is the product of finding and focusing on the beauty, love, growth, strength and wisdom you gain through the madness if you look for it. Through the chaos of these past couple of years, especially these past couple of months for us, we learn time and time again that love is enough to carry us through. May this album be a giant hug and hand for you to hold through the madness.”
