Everyone loves Dolly Parton for her legendary career in country music, her philanthropic work, her infectious personality and everything in between. That’s why any fan will likely appreciate a good “Dollyism,” defined as “witty and wise words of advice given by the iconic Dolly Parton.”
The “9 to 5” singer took to her social media channels on Thursday (March 3), noting that the Academy of Country Music Awards threw her a release party for Run, Rose, Run, Parton’s soon-to-release album with an accompanying novel co-authored with James Patterson. The album is set to release on Friday (March 4), and the book will follow on Monday (March 7). That’s the same day Parton will host the 57th ACM Awards, the two-hour “concert event of the year” at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. The show will livestream commercial-free on Prime Video beginning at 8 p.m. EST on March 7. It’s packed with star-studded performances and awards celebrating the biggest names in country music.
Ahead of the big day, Parton and the academy shared a video of some of the best “Dollyisms,” including a translation for anyone who might not speak her language (yet). Here are four “Dollyisms” and their meaning:
- “It’s hard to be a diamond in a rhinestone world.” (Why blend in when standing out is so much more fun!)
- “I know I’m not dumb and I know I’m not blonde.”(You know who you are, so who cares what other people think?)
- “It costs a lot of money to look this cheap.” (All that matters is being yourself and feeling great about it.)
- “Find out who you are and do it on purpose.” (Learn from your experiences and live the live you want to live!)
