Everyone loves Dolly Parton for her legendary career in country music, her philanthropic work, her infectious personality and everything in between. That’s why any fan will likely appreciate a good “Dollyism,” defined as “witty and wise words of advice given by the iconic Dolly Parton.”
The “9 to 5” singer took to her social media channels to share a few “Dollyisms” last year. She also took a moment in her caption to note that the Academy of Country Music Awards had thrown her a release party for Run, Rose, Run, Parton’s album with an accompanying novel co-authored with James Patterson. The album and novel released in March 2022, just in time for Parton to host the star-studded 57th ACM Awards in Las Vegas.
Parton’s Instagram followers loved the “Dollyisms,” gushing over the legendary country artist’s charm and mottos to live by. Some commenters wrote, “I need all the dollyisms in my life❤️❤️,” “I love you so much Dolly! I wish I would have started using these Dollyisms years ago! 🥳 👑,” “These have quickly become self help mantras for me ✨💛💐 keep ‘em comin queen 👑 💪🏾,” and “Stealing these sayings for my captions 😂,” to name a few.
Parton shared a few of her best “Dollyisms,” including a translation for anyone who might not speak her language (yet). Here are four “Dollyisms” and their meaning:
- “It’s hard to be a diamond in a rhinestone world.” (Why blend in when standing out is so much more fun!)
- “I know I’m not dumb and I know I’m not blonde.”(You know who you are, so who cares what other people think?)
- “It costs a lot of money to look this cheap.” (All that matters is being yourself and feeling great about it.)
- “Find out who you are and do it on purpose.” (Learn from your experiences and live the live you want to live!)
