It’s no secret that Carly Pearce rocks stunning looks to every awards show, but the “Next Girl” singer says fans have “seen every ugly face I could ever make.” She credits her Kentucky upbringing with being unable to conceal her true emotions when she reacts to big moments, such as winning an award for her work in country music. Pearce notes that while other artists can often collect themselves amidst their excitement, she won’t hold back. She explained in a recent statement:

“Here’s the deal. I don’t know how to fake or compose my reactions to things, you know like my peers, they’ll get up and they’re like, ‘I’d like to think the Academy of Country Music…’ And I like stand up and start jumping up and down, hiking my dress up to jump up to win an award. I’m like, ‘OH MY GAWWWD!’ The Kentucky part of me just comes out and I’m fine with it. At this point everybody’s seen every ugly face I could ever make.”

One very memorable win for Pearce was when she was named Female Vocalist of the Year at the CMA Awards in November. Pearce could hardly contain herself when she tearfully admitted “I really didn’t think this was gonna happen.” As she collected herself, fellow nominee and duet partner Ashley McBryde stepped in to help: “What she meant to say was — there’s a lot of love, respect and admiration in this category…”

Pearce is nominated in a few main categories at the upcoming 57th Academy of Country Music Awards. She’s up for Female Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, Video of the Year and Music Event of the Year. The latter two award nominations are for her smash collaboration and music video with McBryde, “Never Wanted To Be That Girl.” Pearce and McBryde are also on the star-studded list of artists to perform throughout the evening, along with Chris Stapleton, Thomas Rhett, Maren Morris and plenty others. Dolly Parton is set to host the show, along with reigning New Female and New Male Artists of the Year Gabby Barrett and Jimmie Allen. The ACM Awards will livestream commercial-free on Prime Video beginning at 8 p.m. EST on Monday, March 7.
