Faith Hill stars alongside her real-life husband in the highly-anticipated Paramount+ series 1883, and the country giant revealed that she never rehearses lines with Tim McGraw.

Hill spoke with host Stephen Colbert on the comedian’s late night show on Tuesday night (February 1). On The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, Hill delved into what it’s like for her and McGraw to be married both on and off screen. “Well, we’ve been married for 25 years. We have three grown daughters, all in their 20s. We are empty nesters now…” Hill explained to Colbert. Here’s how she said she and McGraw approach their portrayals as Margaret and James Dutton:

“Here’s what we decided. We’re together all the time. Literally, all the time. And we decided that we would never work lines together. We would never… When the time comes for it to be shot, Tim is James (and) I am Margaret, and that’s who we are when the cameras roll. That’s who we are, and I don’t wanna give that up to him before then. I may have a surprise in my pocket or something.”

The country artist also told Colbert that she has strong feelings about the wardrobe on set: “Well, I do believe, and I do feel strongly about this, that a man should have to wear a corset, because that’s what we had to wear, right? …Honestly, I have no idea how they survived with the wardrobe. It was painful…but that’s OK. It’s all for the art of it all.”

1883 is the highly-anticipated prequel to Yellowstone, starring Kevin Costner (John Dutton). McGraw and Hill play Costner’s character’s great grandparents in 1883, starring alongside Sam Elliott, Isabel May and others. Watch Hill’s interview with Colbert here:
