Thomas Rhett and Lauren Akins have the sweetest family — and they don’t shy away from showing what parent life is really like. Akins took to Instagram when she was “on the struggle bus,” and called on other moms for suggestions. It happened when she allowed her two oldest daughters to brush her hair as she fed the baby. Unbeknownst to her, the girls attempted to “curl” their mom’s hair, leaving the comb unable to budge from the knots.

“Morning! I was just gonna get on Instagram for the first time in a while to see if any moms had any suggestions to help another mom out,” Akins says in the video. “I am home alone with the four kids, and three of the four are sick, so the older two are not in school. And while I was feeding the baby, I was gonna let the older two brush my hair. Well, I did let them brush my hair, and they attempted to curl it — I didn’t realize this is what they were doing, and here we are. I’ve gotten it from the first knot down to where it is now, but I’m stuck and I really don’t wanna cut my hair. So, if any moms have any suggestions, let me hear ‘em!”

Akins captioned her plea with a shout out to any other moms “on the struggle bus today,” and explained that she “tried to break the comb but it’s too bendy....I'd love to NOT have to cut my hair.”

A few hours later, however, Akins shared a celebratory update (and an all-caps warning: “**DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME**”). Akins was freed with the help of “the greatest mother in law and friends a girl could have.” She credited “April and Elbia with my life with that knife so close to my head-& Paige with the box cutter,” and she “only lost a little bit of hair.” Akins shared videos of the process for anyone else who might find themselves with a comb stuck in their hair.

Rhett, who wasn’t around when the comb incident happened, commented on his wife’s first post: “I leave for 2 hours….” Still, the country singer-songwriter is no stranger to similar parenting moments. He recently shared a photo on Instagram that proves that hair-styling doesn’t stop at Akins’ hair: “Willa gray really wanted to dye my hair orange today so….”

Rhett and Akins adopted their eldest daughter, Willa Gray, who is 6 years old. She’s a big sister to 4-year-old Ada JamesLennon Love, who turns 2 this year, and Lillie Carolinawho was born in November.
