Dolly Parton Mourns Death Of Kenny Rogers: 'My Heart's Broken'

Dolly Parton has spoken out in light of the death of her friend and longtime music collaborator, Kenny Rogers.

Following reports that the iconic country crooner died at aged 81 last night (March 20), Parton took to social media to mourn Rogers in an emotional, heartfelt video. “I know that we all know Kenny is in a better place than we are today, but I’m pretty sure he’s going to be talking to God sometime today if he ain’t already and he’s gonna be asking Him to spread some light on a bunch of this darkness going on here.”

“I loved Kenny with all my heart, and my heart’s broken and a big ole chunk of it has gone with him today. And I think I can speak for all his family, his friends, and fans when I say that I will always love you,” Parton continues, before holding up a fond picture of the pair together.

“Just happened to have this picture when I walked out this morning… of us,” she added, attempting to fight back her tears. “I know you’re as sad as I am but, god bless you, Kenny. Fly high, straight into the arms of God.”

The 74-year-old country superstar captioned the video with the following tribute to Rogers: “You never know how much you love somebody until they’re gone. I’ve had so many wonderful years and wonderful times with my friend Kenny, but above all the music and the success I loved him as a wonderful man and a true friend.”

Parton and Rogers’ friendship spans over 30 years. As a pair, the superstars were considered the gold standard for country music duets, and have performed a myriad of songs together, including their 1983 number-one hit “Islands in the Stream,” as well as “You Can’t Make Old Friends,” “The Greatest Gift of All,” “Real Love” and a bevy of others. Together, the country sensations also recorded several albums together such as Once Upon a Christmas (1984), Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers (1999),and Kenny & Dolly (2003).
