Three students became sick after eating pot-laced Cheetos that were given to them by a fellow classmate. One student had to be taken to the hospital, while another student was carried out school by her father because she was unable to walk. The third student suffered hallucinations after eating the THC-infused snack.
Police arrested the 15-year-old girl who admitted to sharing the bag of "Weetos Flamin’ Hot" with her classmates. The girl said the students knew the snack was infused with THC, but one of the students thought she was eating regular Cheetos.
“Her friend just gave her a Cheeto, and what she thought was a Cheeto was actually something called Weetos,” said Kevin Klein whose sister was hospitalized. “It’s basically marijuana or THC infused Cheetos.”
Police said the girl told them an unidentified man gave her the bag of THC-infused snacks, which is sold legally in California. She was arrested on suspicion of possessing THC, which is a felony offense, was suspended from school for ten days and faces expulsion.
Rod Emerson, the owner of the California company that makes "Weetos Flamin’ Hot", told the Sun-Sentinal that the product the girl had was not made by his company.
It looks like a bootleg, and it’s happened before,” Emerson said. “That packaging is not mine. Our designs are not meant to appeal to children, and I’m not the guy shipping them to children.”
