Russell Dickerson teamed up with the Jonas Brothers on a new version of “Happen To Me,” the country-pop star’s infectious single that went viral on TikTok.
Dickerson released the new version of “Happen To Me,” featuring the iconic pop trio, on Friday (October 31), shortly after he appeared as a surprise guest during one of the Jonas Brothers’ tour stops. The group debuted a live rendition of their new collaboration “to a roaring crowd,” a press release states. “Happen To Me” featuring the Jonas Brothers “captures the spirit of that electric night—bridging genres and showcasing a fresh, feel-good sound that celebrates connection, gratitude, and the moments that ‘happen to’ shape us.”
Dickerson wrote “Happen To Me” with Chase McGill, Jessie Jo Dillon and Chris LaCorte. He released the single — which includes a nod to Cyndi Lauper’s timeless 80s hit, “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” — earlier this year, and it’s since gone viral on TikTok. Over the summer, Dickerson premiered a Daniella Mason-directed music video that brings his signature “infectious energy to life in a vibrant, over-the-top celebration.”
“‘Happen To Me’ is all about dancing through heartbreak,” Dickerson said in a statement. “When we first started writing, I thought, ‘What’s a song that makes every girl want to get up and dance when it plays?’ So we kicked off the chorus with ‘Girls just want to have fun,’ and kept building from there.”
“Happen To Me” is one of 12 tracks that appears on Dickerson’s latest studio record, Famous Back Home. The album also includes his newest single, “Worth Your Wild,” plus “Love That I Love You,” the title track, “Bones” and more. It followed Dickerson’s self-titled record in 2022, Southern Symphony (2020) and Yours (2017).
“This album means so much to me,” Dickerson added in a statement when the album arrived in August. “I poured my heart into every song, and I can’t wait for everyone to hear it. In many ways, it’s a thank-you letter to the people who believed in me from the very beginning. I hope it serves as a reminder that no matter how far you go, the truest kind of ‘famous’ is found in those who’ve known you all along.”
