Bailey Zimmerman delivered his highly-anticipated sophomore record after two years in the making on Friday (August 8).

Zimmerman’s Different Night Same Rodeo, produced by Austin Shawn, marks a fresh era in the singer-songwriter’s career. The 18-track record includes “Backup Plan” featuring Luke Combs, “Holy Smokes,” “New To Country,” “Hell or High Water,” “Holding On,” “Comin’ In Cold,” “Ashes” with Diplo and “Chevy Silverado.” Zimmerman, who spoke about the record when he appeared on The Bobby Bones Show, also marked his album’s release date with the premiere of his “Lost” music video, featuring The Kid LAROI. The album’s title is inspired by a phrase Zimmerman’s father used while the country star was growing up: “same sh*t, different day,” according to a press release issued Friday.

“Working with Luke Combs in the first place was like a dream come true, and when I sent him the text, I never really thought he was gonna reply because he’s like Luke Combs, you know? But when he hit me up, he hit me back like a month later, and then from then on, we’ve just been like really good buddies,” Zimmerman said in a previous press conference while talking about some of the tracks in his newest chapter. “Everything Luke Combs has done for me… working with Luke Combs (was) a dream come true. Never thought it would happen, but I’m grateful it did.

There’s something about this new song, ‘Comin in Cold,’ that just feels like something that I haven’t done before because it’s not really about heartbreak. It’s more about this girl that (I) should not be chasing,” Zimmerman said. “The last two years of my life, I have just chased red flags constantly. Every girl I like, it comes out like, ‘oh, you have a boyfriend and you’ve been cheating on your boyfriend with me.’ …Massive red flag. I’m just so addicted to them. So, that’s what this song is really about…she’s everything I want, but nothing that I need. I don’t’ need that, but man, I want it. It’s kind of like a beer on a Saturday night. You don’t really need it, but you want it, you know?

“‘Comin’ in Cold’ is a little different because it’s not like, ‘F you, you broke my heart,’ or, you know, like ‘oh, I’m sad, I’m heartbroken,’” he continued. “It’s more like, I’ve been trying to get un-heartbroken and I seem to be finding more people that just keep – like gosh dang, dude, can I not just find a freakin’ girl that’s like, loves God, (is) a good person, treats people right, you know? It’s always something, you know? I think ‘Comin’ in Cold’ just talks about more how my life has been the last couple years than the heartbreak I went through as a teenager and that stuff. So, yeah, it’s kind of like more mature, I guess, if you would. Not really, because I’m still chasing girls in bars, but what are you gonna do?”

Different Night Same Rodeo follows Zimmerman’s powerful debut record, Religiously. The Album., which included the title track, “Fix’n To Break,” “Fall In Love,” “You Don’t Want That Smoke,” “Rock and A Hard Place,” “Where It Ends” and more.
