Old Dominion paid tribute to a “dear friend” with a heartfelt ballad that arrived on Friday (July 25).
The reigning Country Music Association Vocal Group of the Year — made up of Matthew Ramsey, Trevor Rosen, Whit Sellers, Geoff Sprung, and Brad Tursi — debuted “Miss You Man.” The vulnerable song serves as a tribute in memory of the group’s late friend, Andrew Dorff, a songwriter who died in 2016. He was 40.
“Some years ago, we lost our dear friend Andrew Dorff far too soon,” Old Dominion wrote in a post on Instagram on Friday. “We play songs we’ve written with him every night on stage. When you hear our music, many times you are also hearing the voice of Andrew. There is a saying - Grief is the price of love. We all experience that loss at some point and we carry that love as we go through that process, in some ways, for the rest of our lives. Miss You Man is a tribute to grief, friendship, and love.”
“Yeah, I miss you man when I hear the band/ In the bar on Fifth and Main/ Yeah, we tore it up, but I don't go there much/ Anymore it just ain't the same/ I’ll never understand/ But I guess the Big Man had a whole other set of plans/ I’ll keep carrying on your vibes and your songs the best I can/ But I miss you man”
“Miss You Man” is the latest song to release from Old Dominion’s upcoming 13-track album, Barbara. The project will also include “Making Good Time,” “Water My Flowers,” “Me Most Nights” and “Man or the Song.” Old Dominion previously said Barbara is “our most personal record ever.” It’s set to release on August 22. Until then, the band continues headlining the “How Good Is That World Tour.” Find the list of dates here.
