Tigirlily Gold star Krista Slaubaugh reflected on a “simple” yet game-changing talk she had with her now-fiancé early in the couple’s relationship.
Krista, part of the award-winning duo with sister Kendra Slaubaugh, debuted “Thinkin’ Bout That” on Friday (July 11). The heartfelt anthem nods to a moment Krista shared with Walker Montgomery, who popped the question in May after nearly two years together. Shortly after they started dating, Montgomery said one thing to Krista that ultimately inspired Tigirlily Gold’s newest single.
“He pointed out a house and asked me what I thought about it. I said, ‘I don’t know, I’ve never had to think about that,’” Krista remembered. “He turned to me and said, ‘Well, you should start thinkin’ bout that.’ With that simple phrase, he gave a sense of reality to every single future dream of mine. ‘Thinkin’ Bout That’ encapsulates that new, exciting part of a relationship where everything you’ve wanted in life in no longer at arm’s length, it happens to be sitting right next to you in the driver’s seat.”
“You should start thinkin’ bout/ Would you wanna take my last name/ Honeymoon in Greece or Spain/ You ain’t gotta make your pretty mind up now/ But you should start, you should start thinkin’ about/ If we had a girl, what would we name her/ See the world right now or later/ What kind of forever do you wanna have/ You should start, you should start thinkin’ bout that/ Thinkin’ bout that”
Krista said she was “overwhelmed in the best way” when Montgomery, country artist and son of John Michael Montgomery, proposed to her on a surprise trip to North Carolina (with an “elegant” engagement ring). She told PEOPLE at the time that “you wait for that moment your whole life, and I just wanted to remember and soak it in as much as possible. …(I)couldn’t have imagined (the proposal) more perfect.”
