Kelly Clarkson delivered a heartfelt rendition of a heartfelt ballad by Riley Green on The Kelly Clarkson Show.
Clarkson covered “Don’t Mind If I Do,” the title track of the country star’s latest studio record, on her 43rd birthday on Thursday (April 24). Green released it as a duet with Ella Langley after the power duo’s viral duet, “you look like you love me.” The song tells the story of exes who drifted apart, but they still think about reigniting the spark of their romance.
“I wrote the song in the green room at a show in Rogers, Arkansas, and I wrote it as a duet. I didn't necessarily have Ella in mind to sing on it,” Green said of “Don’t Mind If I Do,” when he talked about his “accidental” success with Langley on an episode of Southern Living’s Biscuits & Jam podcast. “And when I went in the studio to record it, I think I texted her and see if she would come by to put a female vocal on it to make sure the key was right for a female. And she just nailed it. As soon as I heard it, I thought it wasn't gonna do any better than that, and so it was kinda accidental that she ended up on that song.”
Clarkson noted that Green is touring all summer with Langley and other artists in the lineup. They nodded to Smokey and the Bandit to announce the “Damn Country Music Tour,” which also includes Drake White, Vincent Mason, Lauren Watkins, Jake Worthington, Preston Cooper, Erik Dylan, Wyatt McCubbin, Mike Ryan and Channing Wilson on select dates. see the upcoming tour dates below, and watch Clarkson’s “Don’t Mind If I Do” performance here:
