Megan Moroney revealed a vulnerable explanation as to why βthe love songs that start the album [Am I Okay?] were short-lived.β
Moroney shares that story in the heartfelt lyrics of βBreak It Right Back,β one of the tracks that appears on the deluxe edition of her sophomore album, Am I Okay? (Iβll Be Fine). The reigning Country Music Association New Artist of the Year performed the breakup ballad in a shimmering gown on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Tuesday evening (March 25).
βYou weren't supposed to be just like the rest/ You swore up and down that you loved me to death/ Now we're in my driveway and I'm now your ex/ βCause I'm way too much and you need something less/ Ohh-oh-ohh, why does this happen every time?/ What's wrong with me? Am I that bad?/ You felt like you had to take my broken heart and fix it/ Just to turn around, turn around/ And break it right back, break it right backβ
Moroney released Am I Okay? in July 2024, and the deluxe version arrived a few months later in October. The Georgia-born artistβs highly-anticipated followup to her debut record, Lucky, includes βNo Called ID,β βMan on the Moon,β β28th of June,β βIndifferentβ and more. Moroney said when Am I Okay? arrived over the summer that if the Kristian Bush-produced album βfeels more honest and vulnerable than anything Iβve released, itβs because you guys have made me feel comfortable enough to do that. ...By the time you get to the end of the album, a valid question would be βomgβ¦is she okay?β And I just want yβall to know that with you by my side, Iβll always be just fine.β
