Emmy Russell shared sweet glimpses of life at home with her newborn baby, including how her mother, Patsy Russell, gushes over her new granddaughter. Emmy welcomed her daughter with fellow singer-songwriter Tyler Ward on Friday, January 31.
“Life has changed a lot. I wanna show y’all a little peek into our lives after having the baby,” the former American Idol contestant said. “Moms are heroes. Not only am I a hero for having this child, my mom’s a freakin’ baller.”
The video shows Patsy helping around the house and bonding with her granddaughter. She beamed as she said, “look what Emmy and Tyler had me! I love this little baby so much. I’m a little bit obsessed.” Emmy said that although she loves the help, she wondered whether her baby would start to mistake Patsy for her mother, and laughed as she said, “can you be jealous of your own mother?”
Emmy and Patsy — granddaughter and daughter, respectively, of late legend Loretta Lynn — appeared on an episode of Got It From My Momma that premiered in December. The podcast episode was recorded live on Music Row in Nashville, Tennessee. that’s where Emmy debuted her baby bump for the first time, and told the audience, “y’all, me and Tyler are expecting a baby girl.”
Emmy and Ward shared updates after welcoming Baby No. 1. Ward said Emmy was in “a really, really tough situation,” days after the baby was born. Emmy asked for prayers as she explained said she’d have to get a blood transfusion. She said in another update after making it home from the hospital: “I’m just really grateful for all those prayers, and just going through all the comments. It just made me cry because I was just seeing how many moms go through just all that struggle and hard pregnancies, and hard birth, hard labor and deliveries. Having a baby is so scary.” She wrote in her caption: “Never knew how real this struggle could be. Thank you all for your prayers ❤️❤️, seriously!!”
Emmy is one of several artists to welcome a baby in 2025. In January, Dan + Shay’s Shay Mooney and his wife welcomed Baby No. 4.
