Brad Paisley spoke about how he blended a few “Easter eggs” into his next era of music while creating a fresh sound.

Paisley opened up about the “challenge” of writing his latest single, “Truck Still Works,” which nods to the title track of his 2003 record, “Mud on the Tires.” Paisley wrote his newest anthem with Chris DuboisWill BundyHunter Phelps and Rodney Clawson, and produced it with Luke Wooten. Paisley shared “my thought process behind making this record sound new and old at the same time,” in a video he shared on TikTok and Instagram on Wednesday evening (February 5).

“The challenge with this song was trying to come up with something that sounds both new and old,” he said. “I was like, ‘how do I throw in a few of those Easter eggs, as well as some new [guitar] solo?’ …It does feel like you’re back in that universe or something. It’s like building a sequel, it’s like what do you do? When you do a sequel to something, which is kind of what this is — it’s also its own thing, but it’s nostalgia. It’s return. It’s the thing where you go back and you fire up the guitar that was under a tarp in the barn. The solos on this song were meant to sort of evoke what I was doing at that time, guitar-wise.”

Paisley released “Truck Still Works” in late September. He described it at that time as “a throwback, but at the same time it’s a new set of wheels.” He also said it’s “a track where everything old is new again.” Paisley performed “Truck Still Works” for the first time on the legendary Grand Ole Opry stage at the 2024 People’s Choice Country Awards in Nashville, Tennessee.
