Lainey Wilson returned to Yellowstone for the Western drama’s highly-anticipated season 5B finale that aired on Sunday evening (December 15).

The reigning ACM Entertainer of the Year, who plays Abby, took the stage with her real-life Whirlwind anthem, “Hang Tight Honey,” in a clip shared by the show’s Instagram account hailing the Yellowstone moment “our Super Bowl.” The clip offers a glimpse of Wilson performing “Hang Tight Honey” on stage in Texas, as Ryan, played by Ian Bohen, makes his way through the packed crowd. Wilson released that single on her latest studio record, along with “4x4xU,” “Whirlwind,” “Country’s Cool Again,” “Good Horses” with Miranda Lambert and more. Bohen’s character, who previously relocated to Texas, purchased the last standing-room ticket available to attend Wilson’s character’s show, which was filmed at legendary honky tonk Billy Bob’s Texas in Fort Worth. Ryan told Abby he “made a mistake,” and “you are my Super Bowl.” He ultimately accepted Abby’s offer to join her life on the tour bus. Wilson commented on Instagram that she was “grateful to be a part of this,” and Bohen said he “couldn’t imagine a better ending.” Other Yellowstone stars, including Jen Landon and Hassie Harrison — playing Teeter and Laramie, respectively — also commented on the heartwarming ending for Abby and Ryan.

Wilson recently spoke about her experience on Yellowstone in an interview with Vanity Fair, including how she met show creator Taylor Sheridan, who wrote the role specifically for her. Wilson, who previously noted that she’d only received her own script and had “no clue” what would happen in the rest of the season, said in the interview that “it was such a blessing because it really put a face to a name. Especially during a time when people might have known the song on the radio, but they just didn’t know who sang it or what they looked like. That’s what Yellowstone did for me.”

Yellowstone premiered in 2018, telling the story of “a ranching family in Montana (facing) off against others encroaching on their land.” Luke GrimesKelly ReillyWes BentleyCole HauserKelsey Asbille and Kevin Costner, who confirmed his departure from the show earlier this year, starred in the epic series.
