Lainey Wilson made an unexpected wardrobe choice when she took the stage during one of her recent headlining shows.
The reigning ACM and CMA Entertainer of the Year wore an inflatable Halloween costume that gave the appearance of Wilson sitting on the back of a giant chicken. She shared photos and videos from her recent tour stops on Instagram on Monday afternoon (November 4). One video, appearing on the fifth slide, captured Wilson performing “Counting Chickens” in the costume.
“Halloweekend on the road 🐔 Who let the chickens out? Thank you Little Rock, Evansville and Charleston ❤️,” Wilson wrote in her caption.
“Counting Chickens” is one of 14 tracks that appeared on her highly-anticipated new album, Whirlwind, which she released in August. The record follows Wilson’s Grammy-winning Bell Bottom Country (2022), and includes “Country’s Cool Again,” “Good Horses” with Miranda Lambert, “Whirlwind,” “Hang Tight Honey” and more. “Counting Chickens” is one of the love songs on the project — amid Wilson’s relationship with boyfriend Devlin “Duck” Hodges — along with “4x4xU” and others.
“Whirlwind is kind of the Western sister of Bell Bottom Country,” Wilson previously said in a statement. “Since that album, I have gotten to experience so many new things and meet folks from different walks of life. Because of that, I’ve become a better songwriter, and I have more understanding. I feel like I’ve truly stepped into what it is that I’m called to be doing. Ironically, I found my path within all the craziness—and that’s the whirlwind.”
