Thomas Rhett revealed who he thinks is the most “mesmerizing” storyteller when he caught up with iHeartRadio’s Bobby Bones and Amy Brown backstage at the 2024 iHeartRadio Music Festival presented by Capital One.

The trio spoke about great storytellers from the Audible lounge at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Rhett took the stage on the first night of the two-night, genre-spanning festival on Friday night (September 20). Bobby Bones asked the country star which storytelling voice he often listens to, and Rhett quickly replied: David Attenborough.

“I could listen to David Attenborough talk…He’s the voice of Planet Earth. You ever watch any of these shows where it just talks about frogs and zebras and lions? His voice is like — it is so mesmerizing. It’s unbelievable. So, I would say…I could listen to him forever,” Rhett said. He added that “probably hiking” is where he’d be most likely to listen to Attenborough. “My family loves to hike. ...I could listen to that voice for hours just walking in nature.”

Rhett performed some of his most iconic hits throughout his career on the first night of the iHeartRadio Music Festival, in addition to some of his newest anthems from his seventh studio album. Rhett debuted About A Woman last month. The 14-track record includes “Beautiful As You,” “After All The Bars Are Closed,” “Boots” and more. The project serves as a tribute to Rhett’s wife of more than a decade, Lauren Akins.

“From top to bottom, I wanted to exude joy and fun with this project – and really just make people move,” Rhett said when he announced new details about the album in June. “I went into making this record with a fearless attitude, put my blinders on and my head down to try and make really fun music. …I feel like if you were to ask me what this record is about, the answer would be it’s about one woman, my wife, and it gave me an opportunity to say ‘I love you’ in a lot of different ways.”

Other artists performing throughout the two-night festival include Big SeanCamila CabelloDoja CatKeith UrbanHozier, Gwen StefaniNew Kids on the BlockParamoreShaboozeyThe Black CrowesVictoria Monét, and more. It’s all hosted by Ryan Seacrest.

If you missed any of the action this weekend, or just want to re-live it all, an iHeartRadio Music Festival special including highlights from the event will be available to stream on Hulu on October 7th.
