Ashley McBryde and Noah Reid delivered a few jokes when they took the stage together to present the Single of the Year award at the 59th ACM Awards on Thursday evening (May 16), hosted at the world headquarters of the Dallas Cowboys at The Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas.
The “Light On In The Kitchen” artist and the actor known for his role in Outer Range and Schitt’s Creek delivered parody renditions of country hits by Parker McCollum, Luke Combs, Morgan Wallen and others. Reid swapped the lyrics to Wallen’s “Last Night,” cued by McBryde’s mention of Eric Church’s bar on Lower Broadway in Downtown Nashville, Tennessee. Reid’s version referenced Wallen’s recent arrest for allegedly throwing a chair from the rooftop of Church’s bar. McBryde told Reid, “you should smile in the mugshot,” as she kicked off her version of Jordan Davis’ “Next Thing You Know.”
Wallen was arrested and accused of reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct after allegedly throwing a chair from the rooftop of Church’s six-story bar shortly before 11 p.m. on Sunday, April 7. The chair reportedly landed approximately three feet in front of two Metro Nashville Police Department officers who were standing in front of the bar. Statements from bar staff and witnesses and security camera footage reportedly confirmed Wallen’s actions that evening. Wallen’s attorney, Worrick Robinson, confirmed earlier this month that the country singer will be present for his next court date on August 15. Wallen spoke out about the incident for the first time in a statement on April 19, saying at that time, in part: “I'm not proud of my behavior, and I accept responsibility. I have the utmost respect for the officers working every day to keep us all safe.”
