Luke Combs appears to confirm that an unreleased ballad will be included in the set list of his 2024 tour; however, there was no release date set as of publication time on Thursday morning (April 4). The heartfelt song offers a glimpse of Combs’ life as a father of two young sons.
The award-winning country giant posted a video on Instagram on Wednesday (April 3), and wrote in his caption, “looking forward to playing ‘The Man He Sees in Me’ for y’all on tour!” Combs has previously shared sneak peeks of the song on his social media pages, including an acoustic rendition he played while watching the kids as his wife took time on the treadmill, and a recorded snippet posted on Instagram.
“He’s Spider-Man in Walmart boots/ And a camouflage hat/ With a baby blue Zebco/ That gets hung up every cast
“He thinks he’s learning fishing/ From the man that taught Bill Dance/ And I think as I untangle it and put it in his hands
“I hope he never finds out that I didn’t hang the moon/ And I’ve never scared a monster out the closet in his room/ One day between him leaving home and driving on my knee/ Maybe I’ll finally be, the man he sees in me”
Combs and his wife, Nicole Combs, welcomed their firstborn child, son Tex Lawrence Combs, on Fathers Day in June 2022. Less than one year later, the family announced Nicole was pregnant with Baby No. 2. Their second child, son Beau Lee Combs, arrived in August 2023.
Combs has been teasing new music since he released two back-to-back albums, Growin’ Up (2022) and Gettin’ Old (2023). Collectively, the projects included “The Kind of Love We Make,” “Doin’ This,” “Where The Wild Things Are,” and “Fast Car,” his smash-hit cover of Tracy Chapman’s 1980’s ballad. That song earned two awards at the 57th annual CMA Awards hosted in November in Downtown Nashville, Tennessee. The Country Music Association confirmed at that time that Chapman became the first Black woman to win a CMA award. Combs recently reflected on the first phone call he shared with Chapman ahead of their iconic Grammy Awards performance together.
Combs announced his 2024 tour in the midst of his headlining world tour last year. The tour also includes Cody Jinks, The Avett Brothers, Charles Wesley Godwin, Hailey Whitters, The Wilder Blue, Jordan Davis, Mitchell Tenpenny, Drew Parker and Colby Acuff. See the dates below.
