Kenny Chesney Opens Up About Making Life 'Harder Than It Has To Be'

Throughout the track list of his latest full-length studio album, Kenny Chesney balances some of the “big questions about life” with a laid-back state of mind to remind his listeners to “enjoy the ride.”

The East Tennessee-born country star delivered his highly-anticipated, 15-track album, Born, on Friday morning (March 22). Chesney said the title track serves as “a reminder that we are all the same. We all love. We all dream. In some ways, we all struggle with what we’re doing here.

“I can speak for myself, there’s a line in the song that says, ‘am I making in harder than it has to be?,’ and I think I do that a lot,” the country hitmaker, who stopped by The Bobby Bones Show on Friday morning, continued. “And I think that’s the connection of this song ‘Born.’ I think a lot of people in my audience — if they’re anything like me, which I think they are — make it harder than it has to be, and I’m working on that myself. And I think why not we just all enjoy the ride, share it and celebrate how good life can be.” He previously said of the project: “My new album BORN continues the story of who we are and how we live, breathe, work, rock, kick back and sometimes get tangled up in feelings that are anything but simple.”

Chesney announced Born earlier this year. Since then, he’s shared a few tracks ahead of the full project’s release, including “Just To Say We Did,” “Take Her Home,” and “Wherever You Are Tonight,” among others. He said in a message to his fans: “When you listen to this album, not only are there big questions about life, but there’s also a whole lot of truths about living and a reminder to enjoy the ride. These 15 songs are different pieces of who I am... and I think they are different pieces of who you are, too, [No Shoes Nation].”

Between albums, Chesney has also released singles “Beer With My Friends,” a collaboration with Old Dominion, “Da Ruba Girl” as a tribute to his late dog, and others, adding to a growing list of hits throughout his decades-spanning career.

Next month, Chesney his kicking off his headlong “Sun Goes Down 2024 Tour” with special guests Zac Brown Band, Megan Moroney and Uncle Kracker. The tour got its name from Chesney’s early 2000s anthem because it “captured a vibe and a moment so perfectly. No matter how much fun you’re having all day long, ‘everything gets hotter when the sun goes down.’ I know from years of experience that’s true. …It’s gonna be awesome.” See the list of tour stops here.
