Willie Nelson announced his 75th studio album on Thursday (March 14). The music legend will deliver his forthcoming collection, The Border, on May 31. The collection “will include 10 newly recorded Willie Nelson studio performances including four new Willie & Buddy Cannon compositions,” per the surprise announcement on Nelson’s social media pages.
The Texas-born country star, who will turn 91 next month, also released the title track of the 10-track project. “The Border” was co-written by Rodney Crowell and Allen Shamblin. Crowell included it on his 2019 album, describing “the inner life and outer reality of a border guard…Willie's wise worldly take on the provocative song taps into an urgent universal relevancy that defines the album,” per Nelson’s YouTube channel.
Nelson recently announced he’s bringing fellow music legend Bob Dylan on the “Outlaw Music Festival Tour,” set to kick off in June. The tour also includes Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, John Mellencamp, Cellise, Brittney Spencer, Billy Strings, and Southern Avenue joining on select dates. Nelson said in a statement that the tour “promises to be the biggest and best yet with this lineup of legendary artists.” See the dates below.
