Lainey Wilson shared her heartfelt response to Kelly Clarkson’s cover of “Heart Like A Truck,” one of the reigning CMA Entertainer of the Year’s biggest career hits. Wilson appeared on the latest episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show on Tuesday (March 5).

Clarkson brought up Wilson’s upcoming headlining tour, which kicks off this month in Melbourne, Australia. “Lainey Wilson: LIVE” global tour stops also include shows in Ireland, England and other destinations before wrapping up in early May in Oslo, Norway. When she returns to the U.S., Wilson continues on her headlining “Country’s Cool Again Tour,” titled after her latest anthem embracing the resurgence of the country genre and lifestyle. She’s bringing Jackson DeanKameron Marlowe and Harper O’Neill on her international tour dates, and Ian MunsickJackson Dean and Zach Top will join Wilson’s “Country’s Cool Again” shows.

“I’m very excited (for the tour). It has to be exhausting because, I was telling you, I saw you perform — I don’t know if this was the Academy of Country Music Awards or something — you did ‘Grease,’” Clarkson told Wilson on The Kelly Clarkson Show, referencing Wilson’s high-energy performance of her Bell Bottom Country song on the ACM Awards stage last year. Wilson also performed “Save Me” with Jelly Roll that night, and won Female Artist of the Year, Album of the Year (Bell Bottom Country), Visual Media of the Year and Music Event of the Year (both for “wait in the truck” with HARDY). This year’s ACM Awards show is set for May 16. “Your whole body is moving and into the song. Everything is singing.”

Wilson echoed that sentiment, noting that she’d recently gone to one of Clarkson’s shows in Las Vegas, and “you can feel it from the top of your head to the tips of your toes with every ounce of you,” when Clarkson performs. “And also, I know that you covered ‘Heart Like A Truck.’” Videos previously circulated of Clarkson’s rendition of the Bell Bottom Country hit during her “chemistry” residency after releasing her latest full-length album (the extended version followed months later).

“I just wanna tell you this... This is coming straight from my heart. Even when you’re up here just covering everybody else’s songs, it’s not just like you just learned the words and you got up there. I mean, you are feeling it for everything that it is. I just wanna say thank you for doing that. That means so much to me that you got up there and sang ‘Heart Like A Truck.’ …You’re singing everybody’s songs better than they sing ‘em!”

Clarkson has previously paid tribute to Wilson and other country artists during the Kellyoke performances on her talk show. She’s previously covered Wilson’s “Watermelon Moonshine,” and delivered her spins on fan-favorites by Jelly Roll, Kylie Morgan, Danielle Bradbery, Cody Johnson, Jo Dee Messina, Keith Whitley, Lee Ann Womack and others.

Wilson is also nominated at the 2024 iHeartRadio Music Awards, alongside other heavy-hitters in the genre like Luke CombsJelly Roll and others. See the full list of country artists nominated here. Fans across the country will be able to watch the 2024 iHeartRadio Music Awards live as the show will be airing live from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Monday, April 1st from 8pm-10pm ET live/PT tape-delayed on FOX. The event will also be broadcast on iHeartRadio stations nationwide and on the free iHeartRadio app.
